All City Jam 2018
FAC Checks: The last ever Tivoli Theatre All City Jam
The Jam started in 2008. It’s an annual event that takes place, oddly enough, in the giant car park of the Tivoli Theatre on Francis St. It’s primarily a graffiti/Street Art event that showcases the talent of emerging and established writers from Ireland and then some well known graffiti artists from around the world! It started off as a Graffiti, B Boys, MCs, DJs afternoon party, but has ended up morphing into something a little different with Skatboarding & BMX-ing.
It’s an all ages event that’s aimed at kids who are into subcultures which aren’t catered for elsewhere. The art work stays up for the guts of a year until the next jam, but sadly the space and Tivoli Theatre will be closing down next year to be turned into a 289-bed apartment hotel, but it means the city is about to lose yet another Late-Night Venue & Creative Space.
The skateboarding part of the All City Jam came from Phili Halton, FAWK YEAH Skateboards & the Shred Shed Team. Together they had ledges & kickers for everybody to skate and then barriers were added to the end of the kickers which led to a nice friendly competition for some FAWK YEAH Merch. While the Shred Shed boyz worked hard all day to finish the Mini Ramp, a long project, but when it was finished the crowd came over to watch and skate the carnage on the ramp. All and all, this year’s jam was an enjoyable, fun sunny afternoon for all and we hope to see it continue for future years in new locations.
If you missed the jam this year, have a look at some photos shot by Dylan Jackson, the self-taught photographer from Dublin. He caught a lot of the days action from various skateboarding shots to some interesting angles of the art work and artists themselves.
